All applicants must satisfy the health requirements specified in the Migration Regulations. You may be asked to undergo the following health checks:
1. Chest x-ray examination
2. Medical examination
3. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) testing

The health checks must be conducted by Panel Doctors selected by the Australian authorities. You usually do not need to undergo all three health checks unless you are applying for a migration/permanent residence visa.

You may be asked to undergo a medical and x-ray examination if you:

• are likely to enter a hospital or health care area or
• are likely to be in a classroom situation or
• are likely to be engaged in an Australian preschool-aged child care centre or
• are aged 70 years old or above or
• if there are indications that you may not meet the health requirement.

These situations are considered to be of special significance to your health status.

If you plan to remain in Australia for less than 3 months and do not intend to engage in any special significance activity, you are usually not required to undergo any health checks.

If you plan to remain in Australia for more than 3 months and have lived in a country with high risk of tuberculosis or stay in such a country for 3 months in the last 5 years, then you may need to undergo a chest x-ray examination and/or medical examination.

Character Requirements

All applicants who seek to enter Australia must be of good character and must declare any adverse character record.

In order for the Australian Government to determine whether you are of good character, you may be asked to provide police certificates for each country you have resided in for 12 months or more over the last 10 years.
